When I look around me I see long faces on my daily commute, I see people returning from summer breaks and friends not really having anything to look forward to anymore. I can relate. For the last few weeks I have been so down, stuck in a mood I can’t seem to shake no matter what I try, and I’ve had enough! My initial thoughts were that it all has to do with the weather and the fact that summer is really over. But what can we do to ensure our happiness isn’t so dependent on changing factors, and to make sure that our Septembers are stress-free?
Enjoy little things
As cliché as it might be, this is one of the most important things you can do to ensure overall happiness. Life is short, full of highs and lows that we seem to get really caught up with, but what we forget to do is focus on the constant. It might be taking a relaxing bath once a week, watching your favourite film or catching up with someone. It doesn’t cost any money, doesn’t take much effort but will make you slow down and be present in the moment. Being present and aware of all you’ve got, from health to… anything really, will make you realise that most of your worries are unnecessary (in the long run).
This leads me to the next thing, being grateful for the life you have. We are so quick to judge ourselves, to compare our lives to others and to forget all that we’ve got all that we’ve achieved. I am definitely guilty of this, and it is not that I am being ungrateful it is just that I expect so much from myself, too much, that I forget to stop for a second to appreciate all that I have accomplished so far. Social media is definitely to blame for this as well, as we are constantly served images of others being happy and living their best life, whereas we might be struggling to find our place in the world and not having enough funds to do the things we desire. But you know what, when I decided to listen to others when they told me that I should be proud of what I have accomplished I instantly felt better. I might not be where I want to be yet, but that doesn’t mean I am not doing very well already.
You are in control of your journey
And most importantly, you are in control of whom you’re taking with you on your journey. I have said this before, and as an introvert I have to keep reminding myself and am therefore continuously reminding you, that having a network of friends/family around you is so important. You cannot possibly live this life without having someone there for you. Wouldn’t it be nice to give back to those that have your back? I personally always feel so happy when I can treat friends and family that support me. It can be anything from being a listening ear and giving advice, to inviting them for a meal or to send them one of these lovely (heavily discounted) hampers from Latest Deals. You don’t need a special occasion to give someone a little present, just to say thank you for being there for me and to let them know that you appreciate them. Giving back has a huge impact on my happiness, spreading the love is just contagious! Also, I am such a shopaholic that even when I spend money on items for others it gives me joy! Shopping is definitely
the source of all my problems one of my keys to happiness, so whenever I find a good website that offers me loads of deals I get really excited.

Another thing that gives me peace at night is knowing that I choose my battles wisely. Yes, I can bite back and argue each time someone or something annoys me but what does that really do? Spread negativity that none of us need. I prefer to step back, let whatever happened go and move on with my life. Unless I feel like I need to defend myself, otherwise I will use my energy and time more wisely. Now, what I am about to say next is very controversial but ignorance truly is bliss sometimes. I have talked about not watching the news anymore in past because it did nothing but anger and depress me, I do read most news sites nowadays and try to just take in information rather than actually trying to find a solution for problems that aren’t mine. The same goes for anything else in life, as long as you are not aware of something it can’t prevent you from being happy. But at the same time, not knowing can also lead to anxiety and insecurity. Therefore, it is good to find a balance between things you should be aware of and things you shouldn’t. Just to keep your sanity.
How do you stay happy?
Lots of love,
