Is Peggy Porschen Cakes worth the hype?

London seems to be adding Instagrammable cafes left right and centre. Floral wall, check, cakes and lattes of some sort, check, a queue of girls and their cameras, definitely check. The last Instagram hotspot I went to was a bit disappointing, but what about Peggy Porschen?

Just behind Victoria Coach Station, so probably one of the first things many people will visit upon arrival in London. The location of this cafe is very clever. It also helps that the surrounding houses are very Instagrammable on their own, so either bring a change of clothes or just rock the same look with different backdrops. Your feed will be glowing for a full week!

I wasn’t joking about the queue… If you want a table at this cafe you’ll have to turn up early as there is a waitlist (not sure if they take reservations). There are a few seats both inside and outside, but there is definitely more demand than supplied for so be prepared to wait for half an hour or longer. That waiting time is often used wisely to get a start on the photoshoot, so it does fly.

I remember being seated earlier than the initial waiting time so that was a plus. However, once you’ve been shown your table it was a bit of a struggle to grab the waiter’s attention again. There were two waiters on a Saturday and it was very busy…

Food and drinks

I’m not a big coffee drinker so I went for a nice pot of green tea, which was delicious. If I remember correctly it was fresh herbs, not tea bags but I might be wrong on that one! The pots were big enough to serve about 3-4 cups but by the time you have that last cup the water is more lukewarm than hot.

As for food, I went for a rocky road cake and as much as I love rocky road, I have to admit I was not very impressed. The cake was a bit dry and not very tasty. For the price I would definitely not buy that cake again. Perhaps the other cakes are better, but my friend had a Victoria sponge cake and she wasn’t impressed either.

Photo opportunities

Now this is where it all becomes interesting. There are so many great backdrops that I would definitely make a second trip to Peggy’s even if it is just for a cuppa! What can I say…. #Doitforthegram

All in all, I would say it is worth a trip for the photos and perhaps the other cakes are tastier than the ones we ordered. At the end of the day, a day out to eat cake and take pictures is pretty fun!

Lots of love,

So glad I came across this post! I've been wanting to go to Peggy Porschen for ages but I've always wondered if it's worth the hype – I'll probably still end up going even if it is just for the photos haha! x

IKR! It was such a disappointment, they are just too overpriced for what you get… xx

Hi Savannah! Although I'm from the US, I can appreciate this post because it inspires me to get out and explore more restaurants in my city. I keep seeing this lovely cafe all over insta but I was shocked the cakes weren't so great because it looks so promising on the outside. Natonya |

Hi Natonya, it is so hard to actually go out and explore your city isn't it! I used to be out and about allll the time in London but after a while I just stopped. I really want to try Elan Cafe as well, their flower wall is just gorgeous! xx
