Off-the-Shoulder Summer Look*

The benefits of the look

One thing a lot of women tend to forget,
especially during the hot summer months, is that sexy doesn’t mean minimalist
clothing. There are parts of a woman’s body that can be very attractive without
being exposed too much. One of those are collarbones, which are always on
display when rocking an
off-the-shoulder look. Not to mention that this is a perfect way to
display jewelry, such as necklaces and dangling earrings.

How to style the tops

Tops in this style come in so many different shapes and colors that
the possibilities are endless. However, you should be careful with how you pair
them with other clothing items, because there are some mistakes you will want
to avoid. It’s summertime, so vibrant colors are the way to go. The bolder and
brighter – the better! But be careful, since pairing two bold colors can often
be overwhelming. Combine it with a neutral-colored skirt or shorts to make sure
that the top doesn’t share the spotlight. Also, think about the fit: if you are
wearing a loose, frilly shirt, then opt for something more body-con on the
bottom, or you risk looking shapeless. The same goes in the opposite direction:
always pair a tight-fitting shirt with a loose pair of trousers or a maxi

The easiest way to get dressed in the
summer is to simply
go through your resort wear and find a piece that you can throw on and go
about your business. There are two ways to go about this: a dress or a
playsuit. Choose whichever you are comfortable with and wear it proudly. A
go-to summer look would be skater-style-off-the shoulder dresses, paired with
strappy sandals and over-shoulder bags. If you are expecting a chilly night,
bring along a light cardigan or a shawl that you can wrap around yourself to
stay warm. For special occasions, you can opt for anything from one-strap
little black dresses to off-the-shoulder wedding dresses, because they all give
that sophisticated neckline we all love to see.

The biggest problem women have with
off-the-shoulder tops are
the bras. The obvious choice is a strapless bra, but you
can also wear a stick-on bra or simply take your ordinary bra and pull your
straps down to follow the shirt, or tuck them into your bra. Try to resist the
urge to put on and show off a statement necklace. Sometimes leaving your chest
bare, with just a little bit of shimmer powder, is all you need, or complement
it with a smaller pendant. As far as hairstyles go, you can either let your
hair down for a casual look, but if you want to really show off your neckline,
put that hair up in a bun and put on a pair of big dangly earrings.

A few off-the-shoulder pieces should find
their place in every woman’s wardrobe because they are in style every single
summer and that trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It is a shape that
flatters every body type and is so versatile, it’s no wonder it’s been women’s
favorite clothing piece for years.

I only have one off the shoulder piece in my wardrobe but I love it! I'm just trying to wait for the warm weather to come back to Melbourne so I can actually wear it again. Julia // The Sunday Mode
