London is popular for many things, food, music, festivals and having a good time in general. Well, the annual Notting Hill Carnival is yet another massive London event that combines all of the cities highlights.
Over the last bank holiday weekend, the people of London (and surroundings) as well as the many tourists come together to celebrate. Even the weather seemed to be up for a real party, as the temperature reached tropical levels over the weekend.
There is no other way for me to describe the carnival as a celebration of cultures, in the form of one giant street party. Everyone is dancing, laughing, eating and drinking. The atmosphere is almost like you are at a festival; chilled but with high energy levels.
You will be amazed by the beautiful trucks, with all their colours, glitter and feathers! I was so disappointed in myself that I didn’t realise beforehand that people dress up for the carnival. For the last festival I went to I bought body glitter and I have been searching for another opportunity to wear it ever since! The carnival would have been brilliant, but naturally this did not come to mind until I was staring at another girl’s glitter #jealous 😩
From all that admiring, dancing and laughing you do get really hungry! The fact that you can smell the barbecue from miles away does not really help. There are many stalls that sell everything from noodles to all sorts of Caribbean food. It is quite the foodie’s dream I must say.
Don’t worry if you missed out on this year’s carnival. They will do it all over again next year, in the last weekend of August.
Lots of Love,
