What to do on a Friday evening? Attend an album launch party of course! On what was but an average Friday, complete with gloomy autumn weather, I ditched the office-vibes to enter the glamorous world of London’s gigs.
Maybe I should rewind a little… A couple of weeks ago, the lovely ladies from Miss Defiant reached out to me to invite me to the launch party of their debut album. Naturally I am always down when there is live music involved.
The launch party took place in the intimate Thousand Island, a venue that will transport you right back to the 70s with the many disco balls hanging from the ceiling.
Before Miss Defiant took the stage, we were treated to three incredible supporting acts. First up was the charismatic TYNI. She took the stage in a gorgeous crop top paired with flared trousers. Her amazing vocals and uplifting beats instantly make you want to dance the night away. She brought sassy-poppy vibes that slightly reminded me of Cindy Lauper and perhaps also Charli XCX. But make no mistake, TYNI is her own persona that I am sure we will see much more of in the future. Check out her music here.
Next up was Andrea Dee, all the way from Paris. Although the tempo might have slowed down slightly, Andrea touched the crowd with her emotional and soulful music. Her style is definitely leaning more towards indie, which is totally up my street. This singer-songwriter brings a more intimate performance that leaves the crowd nearly silent. The positive kind of silent. While watching her I was slightly reminded of BANKS, who also gives a more stripped-back performance. Find out more about Andrea Dee here.
With only one more act to go before the headliners of the evening, New Manhattan certainly did bring all the energy to room. This band transported the crowd right back to the 70s, with their disco-y rock and roll vibes that just make you want to dance until the disco balls fall from the ceiling! Even if the crowd doesn’t, the band performs with such energy that it is almost contagious. If you like synth-y, bass-y, up-tempo songs than this is the band for you. Listen to their music here.
The crowd sure loved it!
Last, but certainly not least, Miss Defiant took the stage to treat us to some of their album tracks.
Dressed in incredible outfits, that are totally festival-worthy by the way, they brought sassy electronic pop paired with some groovy dance moves.
Their jackets were lit, quite literally! I am so obsessed with these luminous bomber jackets. They were made by the lovely @projectmysh in case you want to get your hands on one. Halloween, Christmas and New Years Eve are coming up, all perfect occasions for a jacket like this 😏
Glitter, check. Sequins, check. Highlight on fleek, check. Seriously, these girls are like galactic, unicorn princesses that need to be present at all festivals, because lets be honest, you know you are going to take outfit inspiration for next year’s festival season.
If you like Icona Pop, you should check these ladies out here. They bring those IDGAF party vibes that instantly lift anyone’s mood. Unforgiving girl-power at your service.
A massive thank you to Miss Defiant for their kind invitation. All in all, it was an incredible night that left me with an every-growing playlist of songs that I will be jamming to on the weekends.
