Like many curly haired girls (and boys) alike, it took quite the journey to get to a point where my curls would actually reach their full potential. Not too long ago I shared my natural hair journey, which saw my hair evolve from frizzy waves to the full head of ringlets that I am so proud of.
It took a long way to get to this point, after endlessly trying to manipulate my hair structure and damaging it in the process, I finally embraced the beauty of curly hair. Once the damage starts to repair, seeing your curls pop back to life or seeing them evolve to something unlike you’ve ever seen before, is just the most satisfying feeling ever.
Therefore, in today’s post I would like to share the little expertise that I have around the subject of Curly Hair Care in case you are a curly haired person looking for new products, tips or even if you are just interest in the topic. Although there are more and more products out there nowadays, and everything is much more accessible than before, we still have a long way to go to make natural hair care accessible in high-street stores.
After many trial and errors, I think I managed to find the perfect combination for my current hair type. When I just started transitioning, many of the natural products were almost too advanced for my hair. As frustrated as it made me, I started off by using either Tresemme or L’Oreal hair products. Both did the job, but aren’t very nutritious for your hair.
A couple of months into my transition, my curls started to become more defined, my hair density increased and suddenly I was able to use heavier and more nourishing products. This eventually led to my current routine:
– Wash once a week with Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Shampoo and Conditioner
– Style with Cantu leave in conditioner and ORS Olive Oil Wrap Set/Mousse
In the morning I just wet the curls that became a bit frizzy overnight, re-apply the styling products (sparingly) and I’m good to go! Make sure to shake out your curls once dry for extra volume!
Stay curly my friends!
Lots of Love,
