Perhaps the word ‘resolution’ doesn’t describe what I am going to share with you today well enough. I refer to these personal goals, improvements, or even mantras, as resolutions, however they aren’t quite the same as the good old “I’m going to loose 5 kilograms this year”. My personal goals this year are long term improvements that will not happen overnight, but that will improve the quality of my life. Among the many mantras that I have, the ones that I will share with you are:
- Using less social media and making more small talk with people, which is something I am really bad at. It is so easy to hide behind your phone, listening to music or intently reading the latest updates on Kim Kardashian, however how wonderful would it be to actually start talking to the people that you commute to work or university with everyday for instance? There must be so many interesting people that we have crossed paths with but never even so much as glanced at because we were to busy staring at a screen.
- Embracing my creativity more. I don’t know how many times I get this strange urge to do something creative, like randomly drawing things or writing down some thoughts that I have, making a collage of holiday photos or an inspiration board. Nevertheless I always tend to make an excuse by saying I’m too busy to sit down and be creative, or I have this really fun Netflix series that I want to watch instead. This year I want to take these moments and sit down and just create things.
- Obviously even I will include the cheesy “I want to be healthier this year”, however this is something I have been working on already for at least a year and a half. What I mean by being healthier is simply listening to my body better, I will try and eat food that is both good for me and that makes me happy while eating it. If I happen to crave an entire bar of chocolate I will eat it without regrets. This balance, I have noticed, makes my craving and eating habits much more stable. Only after a full week of ‘clean eating’ I will start to crave something bad, which I will eat and the next day I am back to eating healthy. Of course, I will try to exercise as often as possible. It is really true that you feel so much better if you work out regularly!
- Fashion-wise I would like to narrow down the contents of my wardrobe and spend less money on things I don’t need, or things that I will most likely give away after a few weeks.
What are your resolutions for the new year?
Lots of Love,
