We’ve all heard them a million times before, we might even have set them as our own ‘goals’ for the future. Yes, those New Year’s Resolutions are passee if you ask me. I mean when did you actually accomplish one? You’ll probably say never. Don’t worry now, I’m not one to judge others since I hardly ever stuck to mine and I doubt I ever will.
But how is it possible that the majority of us humans never stick to these particular goals? The answer is quite simple if you think about it. It is set to failure the minute we call it a ‘New Year’s Resolution’. If you want to change something about yourself, your life or whatever do it now. Don’t push it to the back of your mind until the First of January, you will push it back even further by that time believe me.
Secondly, most of the goals are impossible to reach within only one year. If you want to loose a certain amount of weight, a promotion at work or to improve your grades it can take longer than a year to accomplish these goals. Therefore it is much better to set simple, small goals to begin with in the New Year. That way you can start on improving situations immediately and you are more likely to keep up the good work. In the end all we really want is for the progress to last.
So with this in mind you can make your list of small changes you want to make, starting either now or in January. While making these small changes, it is also important to keep the ultimate goal at the back of your mind. That will really help you to stay motivated or to get back on track when you let your progress slip a little.
