Protecting skin from colder weather*

Noticed your skin feels just a little extra dehydrated after a nice hot shower or soak in the bath? Same here. As the days and nights are slowly getting colder and colder our skin and hair will need an extra bit of love to stay soft and moisturised. With just a little more effort you can make such a great difference, keep reading to find out how!

*This post was written in collaboration with Cowshed, however all opinions are my own.

Switch up your routine

Seasons come and go, so why should our skincare routine stay the same? I have to admit that in summer my skin is a lot less demanding than in winter. Therefore, come wintertime I like to switch up my skincare routine by using a moisturiser that is a bit more intense.

During the day I will stick to lighter formulas as you know I’m slightly traumatised by heavy and greasy eczema creams that I was forced to use as a child. In the evening though, I tend to reach for something slightly heavier that will nourish my skin overnight. Something like the Cowshed Kahai Wonder Balm would be great to give troubled areas a bit of extra love.

Protect yourself

Something that many of us (including myself until recently) overlook is actually protecting your skin from different elements. We spend so much time trying to ‘fix’ what is wrong, but we should really shift our focus to also prevent our skin from being damaged.

I still have a long way to go when it comes to preventative routines, but I did start sleeping with silk pillowcases. I could instantly tell the difference it made with my hair as I wake up with a lot less frizz! However, silk pillowcases are supposed to be really good for your skin as well. Cotton tends to create friction, which can result in irritated and dry skin.

Pamper yourself

Now is the time to stay in, without feeling guilty about missing out on the good weather. Next Sunday, why don’t you get together with some friends and watch films with face masks on. I also like to take a nice relaxing bath on the weekends, which I will fill with nourishing bath products and a few drops of essential oils.

If you want to go all out, why not plan a nice day out (inside) a spa? Cowshed actually started as a Spa back in the day and now have many locations all over London in addition to their wide product range.

Do you have any tips to protect your skin during colder months?

Lots of love,
