Last week my friends and I had a little weekend getaway in Brussels, now these photos may look like it was your average city trip but there's more to the story. Keep an eye out for the Wednesday post to find out why exactly we went to Brussels two weekends ago...
In all honesty we didn't enjoy the city as much as we thought we would. Non of us had any expectations at all, however we ended up being really disappointed. We stayed in the Sheraton hotel, which was amazing really! The hotel is right at the edge of the city centre you literally only need to cross the street and you're ready to shop/explore the heart of Brussels.
Nevertheless all the shops were closed, since we arrived quite late on Friday, didn't have any time on Saturday and even on Sunday 90% of the city was closed as well. Even when we wanted to go clubbing/have drinks on Saturday we couldn't since all the clubs and bars were closing at 2 am and we didn't have the opportunity to go earlier.
On top of that, the men were so rude on the streets. Even when we were all covered up they would shout things at us in French and once we were followed for a little bit. It was definitely uncomfortable for a group of girls to walk around in the city, which is a shame.
We were also quite surprised by the fact that although Brussels is a border city with regards to the language; despite all the signs being in French and Dutch hardly anyone was able to speak Dutch or English.
All in all it is a beautiful city, it certainly has that European charm but I would think twice before paying this city another visit. Maybe we expected it to be similar to Amsterdam a lot more than it is in reality. Who knows next time we might like it a lot more. Thank goodness we had great company to make the trip one to remember, despite the mixed feelings this was definitely one of the best weekends of my life!
Lots of Love,
